  • Penrose | Jessica Moritz | impossible geometry | Tel Aviv | geometric abstract art

Penrose Penrose, Scultpure based on a side of 59 cm and 5 cm depth and colors interactions. Acrylic and pigments on MDF 2018 The idea of tridimensional painting was necessary for this project. While I was working on the pattern as figure volumes, I thought it's not enough. The volume needs movement and must imply that the viewer will move too. It's always challenging to create a piece thinking of the space reaction and viewer's too. Colors have their own reaction and interaction. the shape on its own is challenging your vision of space and geometry (ref: Penrose by Oscar Reutersvärd and Escher) So the first option was to build a shape the same way I paint and create the motion in different ways. The goal is mainly on the interaction and definition of space with colors. Still, there are some other options. Penrose 2 This installation is made to have a reflection about space, color, and the white cube. Back to basics, meaning, less is more, trying to show what is art and interaction in one piece, and play with it. Penrose, the impossible triangle is an old geometry trick, you can easily find informations online. I wanted to build one that like every piece of art, is one vision from a certain angle, and a casual shape when you move. so I experimented a lot of geometry, tried many version, with or without colors and then realized, that colors were mandatory. so I worked with RGB also due to the structure of it. do color build a shape or lines? what is the first thing that you interact with? what are your relations with colors? I still have many questions but I'll keep them for later. Penrose 2, installation based on color reaction (RGB). Acrylic on cardboard, 53 X 53 X 53cm//20,8 20,8 x 20,8'' 2018 Penrose 3 The concept of an impossible shape in 2D included in a 3D piece is a new way to challenge colors. Wether you find it or lose it, but the exploration reach a new level. Geometry is a structure part of our life. It’s necessary, but ignored most of the time. We are surrounded by structures, open and closed, but to give us perspective and space. The Penrose is a trick to this space study and to the white cube. Most of the time, the white cube is organized around a concept. What if the concept of it, all was one piece including the white cube as the first concept? Let’s embrace the idea that white is a choice. We need a structure for being, and seeing. Without white, the color cannot happen. soon a new text in the blog section to detail this more.

  • Sheshbesh | Jessica Moritz | abstract geometric | hard edge mural | Tel Aviv

Shesbesh Sheshbesh Mural paining 240 X 550 2018 Through this mural i wanted to consider wall as a playground. interactivity is very important in my work. i wanted to display israeli vibes with colors and history. So i remix the sheshbesh game, mixed it with some of personal history, as usual. The colors needed to be matching the vibes of the memory o had about this game and tel aviv. So i made some research and all colors came very naturally. Furthermore, living in Israel is accepting an heritage of mixed culture and also cultural appropriation from our origins.

• Art Collab | jessica moritz | Geometric abstract artist | Israeli artist | Tel Aviv

Inside Out still frame, inside out , video 6'02, 2020 Collaboration with Diana Schuemann Dancer and Choreographer we came up with the idea of choreography in the white cube as a statement and also as a performance. Choreography Based on limited gestures in limited space. Movement is the most basic gesture that we can experience and achieve. Still, when you do it, you often forget that each movement has a direction and goal. As we both are engaged in movement based work in urban space and relations, we decided to build a project interacting with it and develop it around the different interactions and possibilities based on it. Both of us are also immigrants, so expression will never be the same for us. We had to build our own language to be able to interact in our daily life. Therefore, our attitude and gesture made our experience unique. Our posture, gesture and observations of our surroundings made us stretch, band over, fold to fit in this life. In this specific work, where Diana (the performer) is dancing in a closed space but showing to the street and interacting with viewers, people passing by, cars traffic and noise. Full video Learn more Previously screened: piXel , online pop up exhibition, Inside out, 2020 #homeiswheremyartis , Curator WHEN TWO BECOME ONE, LOOSE THREADS curated by Philippa Wall, Luke Jones and Faye Golley 'In 24 hours' THE WALL SPACE | SCOTLAND, curated by Ayshia Taskin ayshia.co.uk and [SHIFT:ibpcpa] Screening Inside out, Collaboration with Diana Schuemann : A Fronteira- mostra de videoarte, Rio, Brasil Upcoming ALC Video Art Festival part of the collection "Cigarreras" listed and curated by ACOA (Contemporary artists from Alicante) Dance Days Chania 10 curated by Aliki Chiotaki When i was in residency in New york(2018), I met Kayo Albert. • Corner Strokes | Jessica Moritz | geometric abstract Mural | hard edge painting |Tel Aviv

corner stroke Corners can happen without closing the space. In this one, i wanted to try new wall extensions. They’re built to extend the architecture of what we see. I was thinking that the vertical and linear view could be improved. Of course, I would have to also think about colors, shapes, pattern, organic vs geometric, and colorimetry. Corners are not a limit, they are steps to another vision of color meeting the viewer. Every time you come out from the wall, the view has less space and needs to interact differently with the piece. Interaction is a topic that lately made me want to do more sculptures than painting. I think I’ll pursue this idea in the next works. the circles and the colors needed to extend to the space. i believe that wall is not just a support or a vertical relation to sculpture. it needs to be all over, and engaged with the wall. • Make Love great Again ⎜Jessica Moritz | Street Art Israel | colorfield portrait

make love great again As in 2018 i painted a lot of portraits, and also realized a gap between relations, and people some sort of sabotage. I wanted to do a project involving all this. I thought let's create it as a campaign, a fake ad. Make people realize that after all, we have this, we have love, we can chose to share with people; as much as some people chose to hate and share the worst of them. So i started by collecting couples pictures, from 50's until nowadays. I built a new palette, organized my patterns. and i decided to do it as paintings and not prints. I thought that even if in less than 24 hrs it can be destroyed or stolen, i cannot lower the quality of the work or intentions behind. wheatpaste Acrylic painting on paper, 2018-2019, Tel Aviv, Israel Collect original Make Love great Again Mural installation, POP UP museum TLV 2019 Order Prints Make Love Great Again wheatpaste, first draft, acrylic on paper, Kiryat hamelacha, Tel Aviv 2018 Make Love Great Again wheat paste, acrylic on paper, Tahana Mercazit, Tel Aviv 2020 pictures by Judith Yanos Order Prints

  • Anatomy of an artist | Jessica Moritz | surrealism art | Tel aviv | ink Drawing

Anatomy of an artist Anatomy of an Artist I decided to only focus on line and shape for approximately a month. Usually, most of my projects are based on colors interactions and figures. This time, I decided that as an Artist, since we are exposed as strange species, I could expose a little dissection with my own vision. As an artist, we all have a different perception of the world, colors, lines, and therefore ourselves. I tried my best to draw as a metaphor of my own experience. Renouncing to colors to find the essence of creativity and show the the lines as a statement. I decided to only focus on lines and shapes in order to not waste any effort to figure out the real subject. we are all made of flesh and bones, maybe some more than others. being an artist makes you always extend the reality to relativity and twist the rules or clichés of just Being. Let it Be. Anatomy of an artist, fig.4 . Gambling on the stars, Ballpen and ink on paper 18x21cm//7x8,2’’ Every night I stare at the sky Think of all I did And not Then I bet What will happen tomorrow Gambling shapes Putting money on the table Slamming words to the paper Whispering spells to the sky And I let the stars decide Or not I gamble on you On me And every night I close my eyes Without knowing which color is gonna be the first I’ll see.
